History, art and comfort in the heart of Poznań

– experience the atmosphere of Schoeps Residence

The building has a rich history – its 18th-century owner was Augustyn Schoeps, a renowned Poznań sculptor whose works include the famous Proserpina Fountain, the only fountain in the Old Market Square preserved in its original form. His works also include the sculpture of Moses in All Saints' Church and the statue of King Stanisław August in the Courtroom of the Town Hall – the only known monument to this ruler. City records from 1792 indicate that Schoeps owned the property at present-day 9 Kramarska Street, formerly part of Wroniecka Street.

When furnishing the apartments, we paid attention to every detail. The interiors were designed with respect for history and art. Sculpture is a central motif, and the finishes are made of natural, noble materials – such as larch floors and original, exposed brick walls, which evoke the building's former character.

Schoeps Residence Poznań is an ideal choice for both a short stay near the Old Market Square and a longer stay in the city. Thanks to its central location, all major tourist attractions and transportation hubs are within a short walk or a short drive.

Cathedral Island

– the place where Poland was born

Ostrów Tumski in Poznań is not only the oldest part of the city but also one of the most important places in Polish history. It was here, at the turn of the 8th and 9th centuries, that a defensive stronghold was built, which in the 10th century became one of the main centers of the nascent Piast state, alongside Gniezno. In 966, the symbolic baptism of Poland took place here, and just two years later, the first bishopric in Poland was established.

Ostrów Tumski's greatest attraction is undoubtedly the Poznań Cathedral – the Archcathedral Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul, where the first rulers of Poland from the Piast dynasty are buried. This site of immense historical and spiritual significance is worth a visit when visiting Poznań. Also nearby is the Genius Loci Archaeological Reserve, where you can see original relics of the oldest city and learn about the origins of Polish statehood.

Walking the cobblestone streets of the former cathedral island, passing the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Archbishop's Palace, the Lubrański Academy, and the atmospheric canons' houses, we are transported back in time. This peaceful, green enclave in the city center delights not only history buffs but also those seeking a unique atmosphere and respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Ostrów Tumski is a must-see for anyone planning a visit to Poznań – full of monuments, legends and the authentic spirit of Poland's early days.

Old Market Square

in Poznań

Poznań's Old Market Square is the bustling heart of the city and one of the oldest and most beautiful places in Poland. Built in the 13th century as the central square of the newly incorporated city, it is surrounded by a grid of streets and city walls. At its center is the Renaissance Town Hall, whose tower is decorated daily at noon with the famous display of butting goats – one of Poznań's most recognizable attractions. Next to the Town Hall stands the Pillory, a former symbol of justice and law. On the south side of the market square, colorful, narrow merchants' houses line the streets, once housing stalls and shops, and today attracting tourists with their charm. Be sure to visit the impressive Poznań Fara – one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in Poland, enchanting with its interior and powerful organs. Just a few minutes' walk from the market square is the Royal Castle, the former seat of Polish rulers, perched on a hill overlooking the city. The entire area is full of cafes, restaurants, and charming alleyways, creating a unique atmosphere.

This is a place where history meets modernity, and every stroll becomes an unforgettable experience. Exploring the Old Market Square reveals the soul of Poznań – a city with a rich past and a unique atmosphere.

Imperial Castle in Poznań

– a story that combines monarchy, science and art

The Imperial Castle in Poznań is one of the most remarkable buildings in Poland. Built in the early 20th century as a representative residence for Emperor Wilhelm II of Germany, it was the last royal castle built in Europe. Designed in the Neo-Romanesque style by Franz Schwechten, it was intended to symbolize the power of the German Empire and its presence in the Greater Poland region.

After the end of World War I, the Castle changed its function and became the seat of scientific institutions. It was here that the Faculty of Mathematics of the University of Poznań was located, from which came the eminent cryptologists Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki, and Henryk Zygalski – creators of the method for breaking the code of the German Enigma cipher machine. Their groundbreaking achievement had a profound impact on the outcome of World War II.

During the Nazi occupation, the Castle was brutally rebuilt and transformed into Adolf Hitler's so-called "New Residence." Its layout was altered, some decorations were removed, and the interiors were adapted to the needs of the German authorities.

Today, the Imperial Castle in Poznań serves a completely different purpose – it's a center of culture and art, open to residents and tourists alike. Within its walls, the Zamek Culture Center hosts numerous exhibitions, concerts, and performances, as well as an arthouse cinema, a bookstore, galleries, and an Animation Theatre for children.

In addition to the Old Market Square and Ostrów Tumski, Poznań's recreational area is worth visiting, featuring a lake, a year-round ski slope, and a ropes course – an ideal place for active recreation. Art lovers can visit the National Museum in Poznań, with its extensive collection of Polish and European paintings. The Poznań Palm House in Wilson Park is one of the largest exhibitions of exotic plants in Europe, perfect for a family visit. In Jeżyce, it's worth exploring St. Martin's Street and relaxing in the atmospheric cafés. The interactive Enigma Cipher Center, which tells the story of Polish cryptologists in a modern way, is also a highlight for both children and adults.

We invite you to discover the charms of Poznań and stay in our comfortable apartments at 9 Kramarska Street, right next to the Old Market Square in the heart of the city.
